NKFL Cinema Presents: Isle of Dogs - Monday, August 27th at 2:00 pm

In this stop-motion-animated film from writer/director Wes Anderson, an outbreak of canine flu in Japan leads all dogs to be quarantined on an island. A boy (KoyuRankin) journeys there to rescue his dog Spots (Liev Schreiber), and gets help from a pack of misfit canines who have also been exiledVoice cast includes: Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, and Scarlett JohanssonRated PG-13. Gained in Translation - Jazz & Pop Music: Thursday, August 30th at 6:30 pm

Join us on the library lawn for a unique program of famous jazz and pop songs that were written and performed in many languages by such well-known musicians as Frank Sinatra, Dionne Warwick, and many more. Songs in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian will be performed by a band starring Victoria Richter and Moe Methot with Shep Shapiro, Clune and Chris Brooks. This event is weather dependent.

Starring Geoffrey Rush and Armie Hammer. Rated R for language, some sexual references and nudity.Registration preferred.

Friends of the Library Special Sale
Several dozen books of particular interest to book collectors have been culled from our donations. A selection of the books are from the early twentieth century. A collection of newer, large-format poetry, art and literature books will also be included. All proceeds to benefit the Friends of the Library.

Remembering the 1938 Hurricane - Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30 pm

On September 21, 1938, one of the most destructive and powerful hurricanes in recorded history struck Rhode Island. In observance of the 80th anniversary of this life-changing natural disaster, local filmmaker Carla Ricci, will show her Emmy nominated “One Day…A Story of Storm”. Following the 20 minute, Teresa Crean of the Coastal Resource Center will speak on how Rhode Island is prepared for another major storm and the destruction it can bring. A question and answer period will follow

NEW! Truth be Told: A Nonfiction Book Club - Tuesday, October 2nd at 6:30 pm

Join us to discuss the first book in our new nonfiction book club led by Nonfiction Coordinator, Tom Frawley.

Our first choice is American Fire: Love, Arson and Life in a Vanishing Land by Monica Hesse. In American Fire, reporter Monica Hesse explores a series of arsons that took place in Accomack County, Virginia in 2012. In a breathtaking feat of reportage, Hesse combines proceduarl with love story, redefining American tragedy for our time.
