Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library

WHO   Established in 1955, the Friends work to increase awareness of the library and its importance to the community.  Our non-profit organization will celebrate its 65 TH year in September of 2020.

WHAT  TheFriends are committed to charitable and educational purposes relative to the library’s needs. We provide funding for adult and children’s programming, including lectures, discussions, movies, performances and demonstrations.  Friends also maintain the library gardens, the installed AED and WIFI hot spots and also produce “Among Friends,” the newsletter of library events and information.

HOW   Financial support is provided from Friends membership dues, and individual and estate donations. Proceeds from the ongoing sale of donated books through our popular Book Nook also support library services.

WHERE   Programs take place at the library or via computer programs and ZOOM. Concerts and movies are held both indoors outdoors.  Passes to 17 regional museums are available and offered at a reduced rate.

WHEN   Our support of programs, technical and physical improvements, expansion and maintenance of the library grounds, is a year-round commitment.

WHY   Libraries are an important community and cultural resource. They give people the opportunity to find jobs, explore medical research, experience new ideas, get lost in wonderful stories, while at the same time providing a sense of place and community.  Adhering to our mission, the Friends remains committed to supporting our library in ways that benefit everyone.

BE A FRIEND    Become a member of the Friends.  Membership dues start at $25.00.  Membership forms are on display at the library. Mail it in along with your check to Friends of the North Kingstown Library.  A mailing envelope is provided.  You can also print out the form at the end of this page and send that in. You can also contribute by using Amazon Smile and Amazon will donate a portion of the sale to Friends of the Library.
