World War I Lecture Series: Part I-When Empires Collide

A four-part lecture series presented by Dr. Stanley Carpenter from the Naval War College.

Tonights lecture covers the outbreak of the war with a look at the causes and the early months as the initial conflict between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Serbia soon embroils all the great powers of Europe. On the Western Front, the war evolved into a war of fortifications and entrenchments. The lecture also addresses all the great power’s overall strategic plans for just such a war in Europe. Registration preferred.
