Songs, stories, poems, scripts. These are just some of the things that kids in the Writers Club will be creating this summer. Guided by Kitty Opishinski (BA English/URI, former newspaper reporter, author), members are free to create whatever they desire. Bring a work in progress or start something new, use a provided prompt or brainstorm your own, it's completely up to you. Meetings will begin with a short discussion and/or activity regarding one aspect of the writing process and the remainder of the time will be spent writing creatively. Feedback will be given and, although not required, members are free to share their work with the group. If you like writing, please come join us to write for the simple joy of it. Open to students 5th through 8th grades.

Swing trio the Baker Brothers features Mark Baker on guitar, Junior Gomes on piano, and Dick Souza on bass. In this performance they will pay tribute to Wes Montgomery, the great American jazz guitarist. The Baker Brothers create their own arrangements and will have you swinging and swaying to the infectious and melodious rhythms.

That's just the beginning of what these hands-on programs offer. Our musical workshops are so fun, kids won't realize how much they're learning. Best of all, no musical experience required. The South County Rounders perform traditional bluegrass, swing, ballads, and selections from contemporary folk music. Enjoy the sounds of acoustic guitar, double fiddles, upright bass, banjo and dobro, combined with vocal solos, duets and tight three and four part harmonies.
