South County Room Items

 

The South County Room is the home of the North Kingstown Free Library's historical collection. The collection primarily focuses on items relating to the history of North Kingstown, but also includes material pertaining to Washington County and Rhode Island in general.  On the shelves of the South County Room are atlases, genealogical compilations, yearbooks, directories, books of vital records, resources on local cemeteries, and histories on various locations, people and periods of Rhode Island’s past.

The library also holds a number of items in locked archival storage including photographs, artworks, genealogical collections, business and organizational records, objects, and historical documents. Some of these items can be viewed online at nklibrary.catalogaccess.com and are available to be viewed in person by appointment.

Using the South County Room

  • The South County Room is available for researchers during the library's regular operating hours.
  • Register to use the room at the Reference Desk with your library card or photo ID.
  • No food or drink is permitted.
  • Please do not use ink writing implements. Pencils only.
  • Photocopying is permitted, provided that it will not damage the original material.
  • Photography is permitted.
  • Compliance with copyright law is the responsibility of the researcher.
  • Staff will retrieve materials from archival storage upon request. Some materials may be available by appointment only.
