The Tempestry Project is personal and collaborative fiber art, environmental education, and climate activism through data representation all rolled into a sprawling community of friends, artists, crafters, teachers, scientists, nature lovers, activists and more. Each knit tempestry represents the daily high temperature for a specific year and location, in this case Kingston, RI. Think of each knit panel as a bar graph, with each row representing a different day and each color thread representing a different temperature range. The tempestries on display represent different years, ranging from 1893 to 2020. Knitters from the North Kingstown community completed two tempestries for the years 1975 and 1999. The Rhode Island Tempestry Project is continually growing; if you would like to find out how to buy a kit to create your own tempestry go to: https://www.tempestryproject.com/product/rhode-island-tempestry-collection-kits.
