Paddling Across Rhode Island

Chuck Horbert, wetlands supervisor for the state Department of Environmental Management and board member of the Rhode Island Blueways Alliance, and three friends paddled their canoes and kayaks through the entire state, North to South, this past summer. The eight day trip from North Smithfield to Pawcatuck, CT included a lot of portaging and according to Horbert had never been done before. With slides and stories Chuck will share this trip with us hoping to encourage everyone to get out and appreciate nature up close. Please register.

New DVDs!

You can place holds on new DVDs that will be coming in this month by clicking on New Feature DVDs. To receive the list via email every month, click on Newsletter Signup, click a checkmark next to New Feature DVDs - Coming Soon, type your email in the box at the bottom of the screen, and click on the subscribe button. If you're a fan of Pinterest, you can place holds from our DVDs Coming Soon Board!. Concerned that there are a lot of people in line for a DVD that you'd like to borrow? We recommend that you place a hold anyway because the North Kingstown copy fills holds picked up in North Kingstown first. You may move up the list more quickly than you thought that you would!

Tax Form Season Update

The library has been notified by the IRS that they will only be sending us Forms 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ this year. There will be no federal instructions available. The 1040 instruction booklet is 104 pages long this year, making it impossible for us to provide printed copies.

You can access, view and print the instructions and forms yourself by going to http://www.irs.gov/forms or you can order online at http://www.irs.gov/orderforms or by calling 1-800-829-3676.

The library will be receiving a binder with reproducible copies of all other federal forms; the charge to copy is $.20 per page.

Copies of the most popular federal and Rhode Island forms will be available at the Reference Desk to copy for .20 per page

Text alerts and user names

Did you know that you can receive courtesy, overdue and hold pickup notices via text? It's easy to sign up for text notification:
1. Log into your account at http://catalog.oslri.net
2. Select "Modify Email/Text Alert Options"
3. Provide your contact information and submit
4. Receive a confirmation message on your phone and reply "Yes".

In addition, you can create a username for your library account so that you no longer need to type in a 14-digit barcode. Use the following steps to create a username for your account:
1. Log into your account at http://catalog.oslri.net
2. Select "Modify Email/Text Alert Options"
3. Type a username in the username field (between 6 & 25 characters long, special characters are not accepted)
4. Click on the "Submit" button
5. The next time that you log into your library account, just type in your PIN and new username

Mobile Printing comes to the North Kingstown Free Library

The Library has launched PrinterOn mobile printing. Patrons can print while at the library, or send a document for printing from home or wherever they may be, then pick it up at the library within 24 hours. Use your smartphone, tablet or PC.

Just use the webpage address www.printeron.net/osl/nkfl to go to an online webpage form. Fill out the form and click on the green printer in the lower right corner.

Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Database

The RI Historical Cemetery Database is now available in the South County Room.
Over 3400 cemeteries, 474,700 gravestones and over 76,800 gravestone photos are included.
The data was gathered between 1990 and 2014 by 60+ volunteers.
In addition, over 100 nineteenth and twentieth century transcripts of cemeteries were consulted and checked in the cemeteries to get the most accurate gravestone data possible.
