Remembering the 1938 Hurricane - Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30 pm

On September 21, 1938, one of the most destructive and powerful hurricanes in recorded history struck Rhode Island. In observance of the 80th anniversary of this life-changing natural disaster, local filmmaker Carla Ricci, will show her Emmy nominated “One Day…A Story of Storm”. Following the 20 minute, Teresa Crean of the Coastal Resource Center will speak on how Rhode Island is prepared for another major storm and the destruction it can bring. A question and answer period will follow

Taste of Korea - Saturday, September 22nd at 11:30 am

 

Korean Cuisine, Full of Wisdom and Nature

This free program is presented by the Korean Spirit and Culture Program Project, who will demonstrate four dishes. After the demonstration, a Korean meal will be served and there will be a screening of a short film on Korean culture. Space is limited, registration required and closes on Thursday, September 20th.

Join us to discuss the first book in our new nonfiction book club led by Nonfiction Coordinator, Tom Frawley.

Our first choice is American Fire: Love, Arson and Life in a Vanishing Land by Monica Hesse. In American Fire, reporter Monica Hesse explores a series of arsons that took place in Accomack County, Virginia in 2012. In a breathtaking feat of reportage, Hesse combines proceduarl with love story, redefining American tragedy for our time.
