Celebrate Libraries during National Library Week, April 8-13. We've got quite the line-up:

Book Spine Poetry

All week long, participate in our Book Spine Poetry challenge! Browse the shelves, stack some books, and create a poem with the titles. We'll be sharing our own example all week on our Instagram and Facebook to give you some inspiration. 

Submit your photos online either on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #NKBookSpinePoetry and tag the North Kingstown Free Library, or email them to At the end of the week, we'll choose a random submission to win a prize! Make sure you're following the library's account where you submit it so we can reach you!

Community Book Talk

Tuesday, April 9, 6:30pm

The Library will host a community-wide book discussion on this year's Read Across Rhode Island book selection: What the Eyes Don't See by Mona Hanna-Attish, a riveting account of the shameful disaster of Flint, Michigan's water crisis that became a tale of hope, from the perspective of someone from within the community. Mulitple copies are available at the circulation desk. All are welcome to join us for this discussion.

Symmetry and the Serene-- CANCELLED!

Wednesday, April 10 at 6:30pm

A wonderful program by Aurora Collaborative called Symmetry in the Serene. The program offers a musical exploration of focus, zen, and the mind featuring photography and handmade mandalas from Nepal. 

Saturday, April 13th is Rhode Island Library Day!

We'll have a full line-up of things to participate in to celebrate Rhode Island Libraries on Saturday to finish off National Library Week!

  • Fine Free Day! -- all items returned on Saturday will not incur any fines! Have a book you're a bit ashamed to return? This is the day to bring it back! No questions, no shame. Please note that existing fines and fees for lost/damaged items will not be waived. 
  • Think you know the library?  Fill out a How Well Do You Know Your Library?  quiz sheet and turn it in by 4:00pm to be entered into a raffle for a sweet, sweet prize! 
  • Children's Author Panel -- Local, award winning, children's book authors will be at the library on Saturday at 11:00am for a family-friendly author panel! Authors will include: Padma VenkatramanAnkia DeniseNicole Tadgell, and Kimberly Newton Fusco. Wakefield Books will be onsite selling copies of the author's books for signing after the panel. Book purchases are not required to attend the author panel.
  • Free Coffee and Donuts -- Who doesn't love coffee and Allie's donuts? We'll have some in the Meeting Room beginning at 1:00pm until supplies run out. It's our way of celebrating you, our patrons, who are an important part of our library!
