From lizard lounges to millipede mansions, learn about a variety of different shelters animals build and use. During this exciting program, you will begin to understand the many ways in which they are similar to as well as different from our own homes. Kids will also learn a new respect for nature when they realize how hard animals work on these basic shelters, just so they can survive in the wild. For ages 4-10. The Lafayette Band will kick off our Summer Concert Series with their annual concert on the library lawn. Bring chairs, snacks and insect repellant. This event is weather dependent. Registration is suggested so we can let you know if we have to cancel.

Join us at the rain garden behind the library (inside if it rains) for an informative talk about managing storm water in responsible ways. Featuring speakers from the North Kingstown Water and Public Works Departments and from The Farmer’s Daughter in Kingston, this event is sponsored by the North Kingstown Groundwater Committee.

Award-winning photographer Marcia Blair loves to travel, especially “off the beaten path.” Photographs of her recent trip to Myanmar, also known as Burma, in southeast Asia, will be on display at the library through July and August. Join her for a slide talk when she’ll discuss the history and culture of this former British colony. Registration is requested.

Led by a chef, this program features delicious and seasonal produce from Rhode Island farms. Children will learn all about how eating local foods supports our local businesses, communities and our bodies. With a focus on food, we work to engage all the senses. Attendees begin by listening to a story and examining seasonal produce by seeing, touching and smelling a variety of items. Everyone helps the chef prepare a delicious snack that features RI grown food. Space limited, please register.

Fiddle N' Fun is an independent music education program designed for young children. They provide unique, hands-on learning experiences through singing, movement, instruments, and much more! In addition to singing, listening games, movement, and thematic material, each session includes Suzuki-style activities using simple one-stringed instruments; these Fiddlestix are incredibly fun, durable, and has proven to prepare young listeners for learning the violin. Space is limited. Scott Rutherford, associate Professor of Environmental Science at Roger Williams University, has spent two years examining the dispersal of quahog larvae in Narragansett Bay in a project sponsored by Rhode Island Sea Grant.
